|     SPECapc Demonstrates New Benchmarksfor 3D Studio MAX, SolidDesigner, Pro/E 2000i2
NEW ORLEANS, La., July 26, 2000 - SPEC/GPC's Application Performance
Characterization (SPECapc) project group today demonstrated benchmarks
under development for 3D Studio MAX, SolidDesigner and Pro/ENGINEER
2000i2 applications. SPECapc expects to adopt all three benchmarks in
the near future. 3D Studio MAX is the world's leading software for 3D animation production.
SPECapc for 3D Studio MAX R3 will represent the first digital content
creation (DCC) benchmark in SPECapc's suite. SPECapc for SolidDesigner
2000+ is based on CoCreate's 3D modeling package; it will join SPECapc
3D solid modeling benchmarks for Pro/ENGINEER and SolidWorks. SPECapc
          for Pro/ENGINEER 2000i2 will replace the current Pro/ENGINEER 2000i
benchmark. SPECapc continues to seek additional benchmarks for leading software
programs in three key application areas: CAD/CAM/CAE, visualization
and digital content creation (DCC). SPECapc benchmarks and updated
performance results are offered for free on this site. "We are searching for models and benchmarks available in the public
domain that can be adapted as industry standards," says George Chaltas
of Intel, SPECapc's chair. "We bring to the table the proven SPEC/GPC
methodology, which helps ensure that the resulting benchmarks contain
appropriate graphics workloads and standardized measurement criteria,
review processes, and reporting formats." SPECapc is a project group of the Graphics Performance Characterization
(GPC) Group, which in turn is part of the Standard Performance Evaluation
Corp. (SPEC). SPEC is a non-profit corporation formed to establish,
maintain and endorse a standardized set of relevant benchmarks that
can be applied to the newest generation of high-performance computers.
SPEC's membership includes computer hardware and software vendors, and
leading universities and research facilities worldwide. ### Press contacts:Bob Cramblitt, Erin Hatfield
