Other Notes

NetApp's embedded operating system processes NFS requests from the network layer without any NFS daemons, and uses non-volatile memory to improve performance.
All standard data protection features, including background RAID and media error scrubbing, software validated RAID checksumming, and double disk failure protection via double parity RAID (RAID-DP) were enabled during the test.
The tested system was a failover cluster comprised of two controllers joined by a cluster interconnect. The cluster is housed in a single chassis.
The cluster option was licensed and enabled.
Each controller was the owner of a single disk pool or "aggregate".
Each aggregate was composed of seven RAID-DP groups, each RAID-DP group was composed of 14 data disks and 2 parity disks.
Within each aggregate, a flexible volume (utilizing DataONTAP FlexVol (TM) technology) was created to hold the SFS filesystem for that controller.
The F1 filesystem was striped across the disks in the aggregate on the primary loops of the first controller. The F2 filesystem was striped across the disks in the aggregate on the primary loops of the second controller.
Each controller was the owner of one filesystem, but the disks in each aggregate were dual-attached so that, in the event of a fault, they could be controlled by the other controller via an alternate loop.
A separate flexible volume resided on the aggregate of each controller held the DataONTAP operating system and system files.
Each disk controller had two 4Gbit/s FC-AL ESH (Electronically Switched Hub) loops, one primary and one secondary. Only the primary loops were active.
All network ports were set to use jumbo frames (MTU=9000).
Server tunings:
- vol options vol1 no_atime_on 1 -- to disable access time update
- vol options vol1 minra 1 -- to minimize file read-ahead
